Spectating
ArenaPvP offers two ways to watch live matches without participating.
HyTv — Browse Active Matches
The easiest way to spectate is through the HyTv interface:
/arena hytv
This opens a UI that lists all currently active arena matches. Select a match to start spectating it.
You can also use /arena tv or /arena live.
Direct Spectating
If you know the match ID (a UUID), you can spectate a specific match directly:
/arena spectate <matchId>
Match IDs are shown in the HyTv UI and can also be obtained through the API.
While Spectating
- You're invisible to the fighting players.
- You cannot interact with the arena world — no breaking blocks, placing blocks, or dealing damage.
- You can fly around freely and observe the action.
- The match HUDs (timer, kills, captures) are visible to spectators.
Leaving Spectator Mode
To stop spectating and return to your previous position:
/arena spectate leave
Or use /arena spec exit, /arena spec quit, or /arena spec l.
Internal vs External Spectators
ArenaPvP distinguishes two types of spectators:
- Internal spectators — Players who were part of the match but died. In elimination modes (FFA, Team), dead players automatically become spectators until the match ends.
- External spectators — Players who joined to watch using HyTv or the spectate command. They were never part of the match.
Both types are protected from arena interactions. When the match ends, all spectators are returned to their original positions.
Crash Recovery
If a spectator disconnects or crashes during a match, their position is saved. Upon reconnecting, they'll be teleported back to safety rather than being stuck in a destroyed arena world.
